LUCKNOW, Aug. 28 -- As many as six FIRs were registered at cyber police station on August 26 involving fraud exceeding Rs 1.30 crore. The cases involved different forms of online fraud-from fake investment schemes and demands for additional payments to an alleged Rs.5-lakh fraud. The highest amount involved a case registered at Cyber Crime Police Station involving alleged online financial fraud of a Rs.1.27-crore stock investment scam. Complainant Arshad Ahmad said unknown persons contacted him through WhatsApp and offered stock investments with a 30% guaranteed return. In another case, a 57-year-old Lucknow resident alleged that he was cheated in a cryptocurrency/USDT investment scheme after being contacted through Facebook and subsequently WhatsApp. He alleged that he was persuaded to transfer money into different bank accounts and was repeatedly asked for more payments. The third FIR, concerns a Rs.5-lakh online financial fraud complaint filed by Saiyad Safudeen, 71, a resident of Vikas Nagar. In his complaint, Safudeen said someone cheated him through online threats or by putting him in fear of injury and made him part with Rs.5 lakh. In the fourth FIR, Praman Narayan, 35, lost Rs 10,0000 in the name of threat that he received from an unknown number saying he will lose gas connection if fails to make his dues. In the fifth case, Ram Kumar, 61, lost about Rs 31 lakh in the name of investment. In the sixth case, Narendra Pratap Singh, 50 of Vibhuti Khand alleged that he was cheated of Rs.20 lakh by a person who promised to secure his daughter admission to IIIT Hyderabad's BTech (ECE) programme through management quota. htc...
