Agra, Oct. 5 -- Six Congressmen, who had been arrested last week for protesting at the parental home of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in Agra, were released on bail on Sunday. The chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Agra granted bail to the six men on Saturday after their legal counsel filed the necessary applications. The group had been presented in court on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody until October 3. Subrat Mehra, counsel for the accused, stated that the charge of attempted murder was dropped due to a lack of justification. "It was a political protest, and the accused have no prior criminal records," Subrat Mehra said. "Since the remaining sections provide for punishment of less than seven years, the court granted bail to the accused."
