Six arrested for gang rape of minor in Azamgarh
VARANASI, June 2 -- Six people have been arrested on Monday for allegedly gangraping a 17-year-old girl in a village on the outskirts of the Jahanganj police station area of Azamgarh district, police said.
The accused were identified as Azad (21), Atish Kumar (22), Karan Kumar (20) and Vikas Kumar (18), all residents of the Jahanaganj area, and Sahil Kumar (20) and Ankit Kumar (18), both residents of Badoura Khurd village under the Jahanaganj police station limits in Azamgarh, police said.
In a press communique, the Azamgarh police said that on May 31, a woman lodged a complaint at the Jahanaganj police station alleging that Azad, Atish Kumar, Karan Kumar, Vikas Kumar, Sahil Kumar and Ankit Kumar had forcibly raped her minor daughter. The complainant further alleged that when she raised an alarm, the accused threatened her with dire consequences, including harm to her life and property.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered against the six accused at Jahanaganj Police Station under sections 70(1) (gang rape) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), circle officer Ashtha Jaiswal said.
The police later arrested all six accused and produced them before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody....
