lucknow, Sept. 26 -- The Sitapur police on Friday organised a workshop on basic sign language to help personnel communicate effectively with persons with hearing and speech disabilities and make police services more accessible to them. The programme was held at the police lines in Sitapur on the occasion of the International Day of Sign Languages under the direction of superintendent of police Ankur Agarwal. Inspector general of police (Lucknow Range) Kiran S informed that personnel were introduced to basic sign-language techniques and briefed on communication barriers that can arise while seeking police assistance. The session stressed sensitivity and effective communication while dealing with persons with disabilities. Reserve inspector Shivbalak Verma and other officers and personnel posted at the Police Lines attended the programme. Addressing the gathering, Verma said sign language was an important communication tool and emphasised the need to ensure that persons with disabilities can approach the police and communicate their concerns without barriers.
