SIT probes sale of Atiq Ahmed's alleged benami properties
PRAYAGRAJ, July 11 -- An investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged sale of benami properties linked to slain mafia don Atiq Ahmed has gathered pace. The probe will examine whether the proceeds from the sale of these properties were channeled to Atiq's wife, Shaista Parveen, his son Ahzam, and Zainab, the wife of his brother Ashraf.
The SIT will function under a committee headed by ADM (City) Satyam Mishra. Its primary mandate is to scrutinise financial transactions related to the sale of properties allegedly acquired by Atiq Ahmed and his associates through benami ownership. The action follows a complaint submitted by MLA Pooja Pal to CM Yogi Adityanath. Acting on the complaint, the Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Lucknow, issued a communication to the divisional commissioner, police commissioner, district magistrate, and the vice-chairman of the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), seeking a detailed inquiry into the matter.
According to the communication, Atiq Ahmed and his associates had allegedly acquired large parcels of land in Mauja Ainuddinpur. It further states that Ashraf had set up an office on PDA land near Kalindpuram, close to the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), which was allegedly managed by gang associates Fahim and Nuh. Although the office now appears to be closed, authorities suspect that its operations continue covertly.
Police have received information suggesting that income generated from these alleged benami properties was being routed to Shaista Parveen, Ahzam and Zainab. The SIT will examine sale deeds and related documents to determine who executed the transactions, in whose names the properties were sold, and the bank accounts into which the sale proceeds were deposited....
