Showers wash away drainage claims as Park Rd inundated
LUCKNOW, Aug. 22 -- The CM Grids project's promise of improved stormwater drainage came under scrutiny on Friday after a 900-metre stretch in Park Road witnessed heavy waterlogging after the evening rain, with rainwater entering the basement of a diagnostic centre.
Several other localities, including Viram Khand in Gomti Nagar, Ashiana and Jankipuram Extension, also witnessed severe waterlogging, exposing gaps in the drainage system.
The nearly 900-metre Park Road stretch, developed under the CM Grids project with provisions for stormwater drainage and improved sewer lines, accumulated heavy rainwater during the prolonged spell.
Two-wheelers struggled to cross the affected stretch as water covered large portions of the carriageway.
Dr Deepak Dixit, owner of a diagnostic centre on Park Road and a resident for 38 years, said rainwater completely flooded the basement of his diagnostic centre.
Dixit alleged that the CM Grid project raised the footpaths and drains, while narrow pipelines beneath failed to carry the rainwater.
LMC chief engineer (Civil) Mahesh Verma, who looked after the CM Grid project during its implementation, said heavy rainfall could have caused the waterlogging.
After Hindustan Times shared visuals of the flooded basements and waterlogged road with Verma, he said rainwater entered the complex because it remained open.
Verma claims that soon after the rainfall stopped the rainwater started getting clear from the park road stretch.
However it was earlier claimed by the LMC that the new infrastructure under the CM grid would not lead to waterlogging like issue.
Viram Khand, Ashiana, Jopling Road, Ambedkar park road stretch also faced waterlogging....
