Short films 'Luqman', 'Jinnat' open dialogue on mental health in Lko
LUCKNOW, June 29 -- A short film screening in Lucknow turned into a wider conversation on mental health as psychologists, educators, artists and members of the city's cultural community gathered to discuss childhood trauma, emotional resilience and the importance of seeking professional help without fear of stigma.
The event featured screenings of 'Luqman' and 'Jinnat', followed by an interactive discussion with mental health experts and the filmmakers.
Written and directed by Mohammad Shabaz, 'Luqman' is a psychological drama that follows a young man grappling with unresolved childhood trauma. The film was produced by Mohammad Shabaz, Mehwish Khan, Abdul Haleem and Shabnam Haleem. The screenings were organised by Bohemian Koala Studios.
The post-screening discussions featured Dr PK Khatri, clinical psychologist and director of SAMBAL Drug De-Addiction and Psychiatric Hospital, and Dr Manju Agarwal, psychotherapist and researcher. The initiative was facilitated with the support of Dr Deepak Nandvanshi, senior psychotherapist at MindLabs.
The film stars Rishi Hapawat in the lead role, with supporting performances by Dr Rishad Rizvi, Shahib Jafri, Eishita Chaturvedi, Priyanka Arya and Kuber Tiwari. A live rendition of the film's original song 'Zakhm', performed by Eishita Chaturvedi, preceded discussions on emotional resilience, therapy and creating safe spaces for people facing mental health challenges.
Speaking at the event, filmmaker Mohammad Shabaz said the film seeks to move the conversation beyond awareness to acceptance, encouraging people to seek psychological support without fear of stigma or judgment....
