Shivam and Sanvi clinch double titles
LUCKNOW, May 18 -- Shivam Yadav and Sanvi Kumar clinched double titles after dazzling performances at the Suresh Chandra Tripathi Memorial Lucknow District Prize Money Badminton Tournament, at the Vinay Khand Stadium here on Sunday.
Shivam, representing KD Singh Babu Stadium, dominated the men's singles final, overcoming Shaurya Pratap Singh of Shuttle S in straight games, 15-12, 15-13. Yadav combined steady court movement with crisp attacking strokes to keep Shaurya on the defensive, closing out tight rallies with controlled smashes and well-timed net play. Shivam then completed his double by capturing the boys' under-19 Singles crown, defeating Atul Mohan Tripathi of Divine 15-5, 15-9. Sanvi Kumar emerged as the tournament's standout among the girls, claiming two titles with grit and composure. In the girls' under-13 singles final, Sanvi of Dalibagh survived a thrilling three-set battle against Prashasti Sharma of Rising Star, prevailing 12-15, 17-15, 16-14. After dropping the first game, Sanvi edged a tense second set and then prevailed in a marathon decider, demonstrating resilience and clutch shot-making in the closing points. She then added the girls under-15 singles title when opponent Megan Prakash retired with Sanvi leading 2-0. Other winners on the final day included Abhijay Singh, Priyanka Gautam, Anvika, and Samriddh Pandey, Paras Dhyani, Harshit Yadav, Aparajita Ghoshal, Sneha Singh, Hisham Aziz, Shaurya Pratap Singh.
The Annual General Meeting of the Handball Association India (HAI) on Sunday elected Alka Das as its chief unanimously. The AGM featured elections for the vacant posts of president and vice-president for the remainder of the current term (2023-27). These elections were conducted in the presence of Mohammed Shafiq, general secretary and observer for the Asian Handball Federation and Pitambar Timsina, the observer for the International Handball Federation. During the elections, Anandeshwar Pandey, HAI's executive director also proposed the name of Rani Tiwari from Delhi for the post of vice-president and her nomination was subsequently approved by the assembly through a voice vote.
Lakshya Kumar won the cadet boys under-13 title in the District Table Tennis Championship here on Sunday, defeating Pranit Agarwal 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5. Pranit Agarwal, Gungun Sahu, Swasti Chandra, Sakshi Tiwari, Vartika Singh and Aizel Kumar emerged victorious.....
