Seven arrested over man's death in drain dispute in city
LUCKNOW, Aug. 2 -- Lucknow Police on Saturday arrested seven people in connection with the death of a man who succumbed to injuries after he was allegedly assaulted during a dispute over a drain in the Gosainganj area on Friday evening.
The arrests came a day after the victim succumbed to his injuries during treatment, following which police upgraded the case and launched a manhunt for the accused.
According to police, the clash was triggered by a long-standing dispute over the discharge of wastewater through a drain outside the victim's house in Rasoolpur Tikaniamau village under Gosainganj police station limits.
"During the investigation, technical evidence, local intelligence and surveillance inputs helped identify and arrest the seven accused involved in the assault," deputy commissioner of police (South) Mohammad Mushtaq said.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Haseeb, Abhishek, Chandrika Prasad, Sumit Kumar, Ramsuchit, Amit Kumar and Rajkaran. They were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, he added.
"During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that the dispute over the drain escalated after the victim removed the handle of a hand pump, triggering a violent confrontation between the two sides," the DCP said.
Police said the victim sustained grievous injuries in the assault and later succumbed to them during treatment.
"Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused involved in the incident," the DCP said....
