LUCKNOW, June 24 -- A serial rape accused, Satpal alias Sattu, died nearly 12 hours after he was shot during a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Tuesday. He carried a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture

Senior officers said Satpal abandoned the car and opened fire on the police team.

During the investigation, police scanned footage from nearly 1,000 CCTV cameras and used surveillance inputs to track his movement.
Police said Satpal, a resident of Ram Darbar in Chandigarh, had a long criminal history and was wanted in multiple serious offences, including murder, robbery, rape and abduction.
He was also allegedly associated with the Chhota Rajan gang and had more than 24 criminal cases registered against him across three states.
