LUCKNOW, Sept. 22 -- A special lecture and dance workshop by Bharatanatyam and Odissi dance guru Sonal Mansingh was organised in two sessions under the Birju Maharaj Chair established in memory of Pandit Birju Maharaj at Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (BSV) on Monday. In the first session, Mansingh interacted with students. She began with chanting Omkar and shared memories of her life. She said she lived opposite Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan's house in Mumbai and woke up listening to his riyaaz in the morning. She said opportunities don't come repeatedly, so one should grab them. "Knowledge should be imbibed wherever it comes from, just as the sun's rays give light to all without discrimination. Students should keep an open approach towards knowledge. Guru is not only a giver of knowledge but a guide who shows the right direction. Students should maintain reverence and discipline," said Mansingh.
