Security tightened for Eid in Meerut: RAF deployed
Meerut, March 20 -- The police administration in Meerut has rolled out an extensive and multi-layered security plan to ensure peaceful celebrations across the city. Authorities have established a strong security grid aimed at preventing any disruption by anti-social elements.
Heavy deployment has been made in sensitive and high-footfall areas, with personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and Quick Response Teams (QRT) stationed strategically. In a bid to enhance surveillance, the police have also prepared a drone-monitoring strategy, particularly for mixed-population localities.
Two key prayer sites - Eidgah and Faiz-e-Aam College - are expected to witness large congregations of worshippers. Security has been significantly intensified at these locations. As part of the arrangements, 18 station house officers, six circle officers, two additional superintendents of police, and nearly 250 police personnel will be deployed, along with RAF, PAC, and QRT units. The administration has taken a firm stance against offering namaz on roads. Individuals who were previously booked for similar violations have been issued notices and summoned to police stations. They have been warned of strict legal action if they are found contributing to any disorder during the festival.
CCTV cameras are being installed at major prayer sites. Senior officers will be able to monitor live footage through mobile devices and tablets. A temporary control room is also being set up to oversee operations. Additionally, plainclothes personnel will be deployed across the city, and drone surveillance will further strengthen monitoring efforts.
Police deployment will begin as early as 6 AM on Eid, with personnel stationed across key routes and intersections. Traffic management plans, including diversions, have been put in place to regulate vehicular movement. While some restrictions may be briefly imposed, especially on Delhi Road, authorities have ensured that traffic flow will largely remain uninterrupted. Dedicated traffic police teams will oversee the implementation of the diversion plan. Speaking on the preparations, Ayush Vikram Singh, SP City, said the urban area comprises 375 mosques and 28 Eidgahs, all of which have been brought under a strengthened security cover. He added that police officials have held meetings with religious leaders to ensure coordination and cooperation. Officials also confirmed that individuals who had previously attempted to disturb communal harmony have been issued red card notices. Additional forces have been deployed on newly identified routes....
