Haldwani, June 7 -- A government school teacher was arrested and produced in court on Friday for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old student, and later administering abortion pills to her, police said on Saturday. Dharchula circle officer (CO) KS Rawat said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused teacher, posted at a government high school in Kanalichhina block, had allegedly raped the student repeatedly over a prolonged period. The case came to light after the girl's health deteriorated and she was taken to a hospital in Kanalichhina, where medical staff informed the police. "When the girl became pregnant, the accused gave her abortion medication to conceal the offence. Her condition worsened following the medication, following which her family took her to a hospital," Rawat said. Acting on information from the hospital, a police team launched an inquiry and recorded the family's statement. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, police registered an FIR against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said officers....
