New Delhi, June 13 -- The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has passed a resolution condemning the reported threats, intimidation, harassment and acts of violence against former Bombay high court judge justice Gautam Patel and his family over his decision that decided the Dawoodi Bohra succession dispute in 2024. The SCBA led by its president senior advocate Vikas Singh passed a resolution on June 10 stating that the reports of threats and physical harm allegedly inflicted on a member of justice Patel's family were "deeply disturbing". "In a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law, judicial decisions may be challenged only through lawful remedies available under the legal framework. Disagreement with a judgment can never justify threats, violence," the resolution said. HT had first reported the threats to justice Patel and his family which began from August 2025, the latest being of June 5, when a death threat was issued to justice Patel's family asking him to recant his April 2024 ruling which approved Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin's position as 53rd Dai al-Mutlaq (leader) of the Dawoodi Bohra community. htc...
