Sambhal admin demolishes Eidgah wall over alleged road encroachment
MEERUT, June 11 -- The Sambhal district administration on Wednesday demolished an Eidgah boundary wall and began removing a room allegedly built on government land in Gunnaur tehsil, stating that the structures had encroached upon a public road and caused inconvenience to local residents.
The action was carried out in Daulatpur Khan town around 2 pm by a revenue department team on the directions of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Vikas Chandra. Officials said the demolition followed a land survey which found that the structures were allegedly built on government land recorded as a public pathway.
According to district officials, plot number 432 is recorded in government revenue records as a public road.
Authorities alleged that an Eidgah boundary wall and a room had been constructed on the land, reducing the road's width and affecting public movement. Officials said the administration received multiple complaints about the alleged encroachment during the district's Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas grievance redressal programme.
Officials said notices had earlier been issued to persons associated with the Eidgah, directing them to remove the alleged encroachment voluntarily. As the structures were not removed, the administration launched a demolition drive on Wednesday.
Using a bulldozer, officials demolished the boundary wall constructed on the government road. Before removing the adjoining room, authorities gave the occupants about an hour to vacate the premises and remove their belongings.
Following the action, individuals associated with the Eidgah engaged around 20 to 25 labourers to remove and preserve bricks and other construction material from the site. Officials said the room was later vacated.
SDM Vikas Chandra said plot number 432 is recorded as a public road and that both the boundary wall and the room were unauthorised constructions on government land.
"The land had already been identified and the concerned parties were informed about the encroachment. Since the construction was not removed despite prior notice, the administration carried out the demolition with police assistance," Chandra said.
The demolition was carried out under police supervision, and officials reported no untoward incident during the operation....
