Sachin leads dominant Day One at state athletics championship
LUCKNOW, May 8 -- The 29th Uttar Pradesh State Senior Athletics Championship kicked off with electrifying action on Thursday, powering through a packed schedule of endurance races, field events, and sprints, at the Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium in Prayagraj.
The opening day showcased raw talent from across the state, with athletes from Ballia, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and beyond claiming early glory. In the men's 10,000m race walk, Ballia's Sachin Sharma set the tone, powering to victory in 44:54.50, outpacing Varanasi's Sandeep Pal (45:25.10) and Mau's Dheeraj Kannaujia (45:42.20). Sharma's relentless pace highlighted Ballia's rising pedigree in endurance events. The women's counterpart saw UP Police Sports Control's Rosy Patel dominate in 51:01.10, fending off Sant Kabir Nagar's Rupali (51:51.10) and Azamgarh's Deepa Chauhan (1:03:04.00) in a display of tactical precision.
Field events delivered fireworks too. Prayagraj's Mohammad Shahban unleashed a monster 67.53m in men's hammer throw, towering over Pratapgarh's Nadeem (62.65m) and teammate Ayaz Khan (61.90m).
UP Police's Himanshu Yadav soared 14.40m to win men's triple jump gold, edging Ghaziabad's Manish (14.33m) and Ayodhya's Abhijit Singh (14.28m). Pole vault crowned Prayagraj's Arya Dev at 4.70m, with Avneesh Kumar (4.60m) and Pratapgarh's Ashish Sharma (4.50m) close behind. Gonda's Manisha Singh cleared 1.67m in high jump, Sambhal's Himanshi Chaudhary leaped 12.38m in triple jump, ahead of Agra's Karishma (11.66m); and Prayagraj's Bhavna Upadhyay powered to 13.30m in shot put. Aryan Tyagi topped the men's shot put at 17.68m, followed by Agra's Ankur Dixit (16.97m) and teammate Akshat Sharma (16.37m).
Varanasi's Kriti Yadav blazed 19.47s in women's 100m hurdles, Muzaffarnagar's Ayesha Parveen clocked 1:01.80 in women's 400m, with Saharanpur's Kajal at 54.21s. Agra's Shiv Tomar ran away with the men's 800m in 1:52.51, ahead of Shamli's Aarav Malik (1:55.96) and Ayodhya's Vipin Kumar Verma (1:56.15).
Amroha's Pulkit Chaudhary hurled 49.93m for men's discus gold, nipping Agra's Suraj Yadav (49.51m) and Aligarh's Digvijay Singh Chaudhary (49.24m)....
