Meerut, Aug. 22 -- A sub-inspector posted at the Medical Police Station in Meerut has been booked for allegedly exploiting a female student under the guise of providing competitive exam notes. The case was registered at the Bhavanpur Police Station following specific directives issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police. The complainant, a resident of Shamli, stated that she first met Sub-Inspector Lalit Mohan in September 2025 at Meerut University, where she had gone to collect her graduation degree. Facing administrative difficulties in obtaining the document, the officer offered assistance and shared his mobile number to provide updates. This encounter led to regular communication between the two over the subsequent months. According to the police complaint, the interactions intensified around May 2026 regarding the student's preparation for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) examination scheduled for December. On June 10, 2026, Lalit Mohan allegedly invited the student to Meerut from Delhi, claiming he had relevant study material and notes to share. The victim alleged that instead of delivering the notes, the officer took her to his rented room located in the Bhopal Vihar locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bhavanpur Police Station. There, he allegedly promised to marry her, citing that they belonged to the same community, and subsequently exploited her physically. The victim further stated that a second incident occurred on June 19, 2026, after she completed a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination. The sub-inspector reportedly met her and took her to a colleague's room, where the exploitation allegedly continued under the same false pretext of marriage. The matter escalated when Lalit Mohan explicitly refused to marry the victim and subsequently transferred Rs.10,000 into her bank account. The student then approached the Meerut SSP to lodge a formal complaint. Following the SSP's intervention, a formal FIR was registered against Sub-Inspector Lalit Mohan under Sections 69 (sexual intercourse on false promise of marriage) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
