Lucknow, March 16 -- A 17-year-old girl, who allegedly ran away from her home in Lucknow after being scolded by family members for loitering outside, was traced and rescued from the Gonda bus stand by Madeyganj police after a multi-day search operation. Police have also arrested a 28-year-old man accused of establishing physical relations with the minor. According to police, the girl's mother approached Madeyganj police station on March 10, 2026, and submitted a written complaint stating that her minor daughter had gone missing from home. "Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unknown person," read a press statement. Considering the seriousness of the case, the station house officer formed a police team to trace the missing girl. The team examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioned residents, but no concrete leads were found initially. During the investigation, police learned that the girl had left home after being reprimanded by family members and had travelled to Delhi and other places before eventually boarding a bus to Gonda. A breakthrough came on March 13 when the girl contacted a person identified as Taufiq over the phone and informed him that she was present at the Gonda bus stand. The information was immediately shared with the police. A team from Madeyganj police station rushed to Gonda and, with assistance from local police, located the girl at the bus stand. During the operation, a man found accompanying the girl was detained for questioning. He identified himself as Mukesh Yadav, a resident of Ranipurwa in Jankinagar Civil Lines under Kotwali Nagar police station in Gonda district. Police said the accused admitted to having relations with the minor. Based on the victim's statement and the accused's interrogation, police added Section 64(1) of the BNS and Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act to the case....
