Rs.4.26 crore released for flood pumping station in Baghamau
Lucknow, June 21 -- Residents of Baghamau and nearby localities along the Gomti river are expected to get relief from recurring water-logging, with the Uttar Pradesh government releasing Rs.4.26 crore for the construction of a flood pumping station in the area.
The housing and urban planning department has sanctioned the second and final instalment for the project, taking its total approved cost to Rs.8.54 crore. The funds will be used for the construction of a 400 KLD flood pumping station and its operation and maintenance for five years. The project will be implemented by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), while the chief town and country planner will serve as the nodal agency. The pumping station will be constructed near the Gomti river to ensure the timely discharge of storm water during the monsoon season.
Officials said the project is important as Baghamau and adjoining areas have witnessed rapid urban growth in recent years, increasing the risk of waterlogging and local flooding during heavy rainfall.
According to the government order, the LDA must complete the project within the stipulated timeframe and obtain all required technical approvals, environmental clearances and no-objection certificates before construction begins. The authority will also coordinate with the Irrigation Department and comply with conditions laid down in its no-objection certificate issued in November 2025.
The government has stated that after the five-year operation and maintenance period, all recurring expenses will be borne by the LDA from its own resources. It has also made clear that no future revision of the project cost will be considered.
Officials said the project is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve drainage facilities in developing areas of the state capital that are vulnerable to monsoon-related flooding....
