Rs.110 crore online fraud: 114 booked in Prayagraj during week-long campaign
PRAYAGRAJ, July 14 -- In a major crackdown on cybercrime networks, the Prayagraj police have booked 114 bank account holders and mobile subscribers allegedly linked to online fraud involving nearly Rs.110 crore during a week-long campaign conducted from July 6 to 12.
The operation, carried out by 15 teams comprising personnel from the Cyber Crime Police Station and cyber help desks at police stations, led to the registration of 18 FIRs across 11 police stations after verification of those detained for questioning, police said.
Investigators found that the bank accounts and mobile numbers were allegedly being used by cyber fraud syndicates to facilitate online scams, including investment fraud, digital arrest scams, part-time job frauds and cryptocurrency trading scams, they added.
Cyber Cell in-charge Ghanshyam Yadav said the investigation linked 182 complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) from 16 states to 114 individuals in Prayagraj. Preliminary evidence indicates that these bank accounts and mobile numbers were used in cyber fraud transactions worth around Rs.110 crore, he said.
Police officials said further investigation is underway based on inputs gathered during questioning, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend other members of the network.

Of the 18 FIRs, three were registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station; two each at Mutthiganj, Dhoomanganj, Naini and Koraon police stations; and one each at Puramufti, Colonelganj, Khuldabad, Kydganj and Civil Lines police stations. Further legal action is underway, shared officials....
