Rs.1.6l cyber fraud in the name of Tulsi Peeth
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 25 -- A woman in the Bahadurganj area was duped of Rs.1.60 lakh in a cyber fraud carried out in the name of Tulsi Peeth, Vrindavan, police said. Priyanka Mishra, wife of Sanjay Mishra, told police she received a barcode on WhatsApp from an account claiming to be "Tulsi Maharaj Head Office Maa Tulsi Peeth Shridham Vrindavan". The message sought money for religious rituals and prayers.
Trusting the message because she had earlier visited the ashram, she scanned the barcode and transferred Rs.70,000 on September 8, 2025, and Rs.90,000 on September 13, 2025. Nearly five months later, when she contacted the ashram, she was told that no such barcode had been issued. Realising she had been cheated, she lodged an FIR at Kotwali police station. Police said an investigation is under way....
