Rs 5.3 crore smack seized in Bareilly, one held
Lucknow, March 9 -- The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested an alleged drug smuggler in Bareilly on Sunday and seized 2.645 kg of smack powder valued at around Rs.5.3 crore, officials said. According to a press note issued by the police, the arrest was made by the Bareilly unit of the ANTF during a checking drive on the Bareilly-Badaun road under the Subhash Nagar police station area.
The accused was identified as Shobhit Gupta, a resident of Sajni village in the Musa Jhaag area of Badaun district. Police recovered the narcotic substance, a mobile phone and Rs.560 in cash from his possession. Officials said the accused was intercepted near the road leading to Raundhi village while he was allegedly transporting the consignment.
A case has been registered against him under sections 8, 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Subhash Nagar police station in Bareilly. During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he was involved in supplying smack and used to transport the contraband to Punjab and nearby areas to earn money. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the drug trafficking network and to trace the source and intended recipients of the seized narcotics....
