Dehradun, July 29 -- An approach road to a newly constructed bridge connecting Uttarakhand with Himachal Pradesh at Nanda Ki Chowki in Dehradun developed a large cavity on Monday due to scouring, prompting chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to order a probe and assert that any compromise on construction quality would not be tolerated. The Opposition Congress staged a protest at the site, alleging that the incident reflected corruption in public infrastructure projects. The Rs.16-crore bridge over the Tons River in Prem Nagar was inaugurated on July 12. It was built after the previous bridge was washed away during last year's monsoon. Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan said, "The approach road of the recently inaugurated bridge at Nanda Ki Chowki has developed a cavity due to scouring. Departmental officials have been asked to restore it within three to four hours. Senior PWD officials are at the spot and are preparing a report. Action will be ensured against those found responsible," Chauhan said....
