RMLIMS performs first IPC procedure for cancer patient
Lucknow, June 18 -- Doctors at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) have successfully performed the institute's first Indwelling Pleural Catheter (IPC) procedure on a cancer patient suffering from recurrent fluid accumulation around the lungs.
The patient from Gonda had been visiting the hospital every four to five days to get the fluid drained due to severe breathlessness. The IPC procedure involves placing a thin catheter near the lungs, allowing fluid to be drained when required without repeated hospital interventions.
Doctors said the technique can reduce hospital visits, ease breathing difficulties and improve quality of life. The procedure was performed by a team from the Pulmonary Medicine Department with support from nursing and operation theatre staff....
