LUCKNOW, Sept. 19 -- The revival of Unit-3 of the Ghatampur thermal power project has increased electricity availability in Uttar Pradesh by around 600 MW, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) said on Friday. The revival of the unit, along with other generating units returning to operation, is expected to further improve the state's power supply situation, the UPPCL added. "On September 17, consumers across all categories were provided daytime power supply without cuts, while the average duration of outages in rural areas during the night was limited to 28 minutes," Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited chairman Ashish Kumar Goel said. Uttar Pradesh met a peak electricity demand of 27,163 MW on September 17, making it the second-highest state in the country in terms of power demand met, he added. During peak hours, the state is currently receiving around 2,400 MW through power banking arrangements from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Ashish Kumar Goel reviewed the state's power supply situation with officials on Friday and directed them to make all-out efforts to ensure supply to all areas as per the roster.
