Repeat offenders face action under Goonda, Gangster acts: Police
Haridwar, March 27 -- Police in Haridwar will invoke stringent provisions of the Gangster Act and Goonda Act against repeat offenders involved in cases related to cow slaughter and cruelty to animals, senior police officer said on Thursday.
Senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh Bhullar said the district police have decided to take strict action against individuals repeatedly booked under the Uttarakhand Protection of Cow Progeny Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Bhullar said police have identified several habitual offenders who will now face tougher legal action under additional laws meant to curb organised criminal activity.
"We will not spare anyone involved in criminal acts related to cow slaughter or cruelty to animals," Bhullar said. "Strict action will be taken against repeat offenders,"he added. According to police data, 67 accused who were repeatedly found involved in such illegal activities are being booked under the Goonda Act.
In addition, police have identified 162 accused associated with 57 gangs who have cases registered against them in 11 police stations across the district....
