Regular medication a must for Parkinson's patients: Experts
LUCKNOW, April 12 -- Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder that typically affects the daily lives of people over the age of 60. A deficiency of a chemical called dopamine in the body leads to it when fingers begin to tremble, said experts on the occasion of World Parkinson's Day on Saturday, according to a press release shared with the media.
Dr Anup Kumar Thakkar, director of neurology at Medanta Hospital, explained that Parkinson's patients should take their medications regularly and strictly follow medical advice. Stopping medication without consulting a doctor can be dangerous. Dr Ratish Juyal, also of Medanta Hospital, said tremors at rest, stiffness, slowness in performing tasks and loss of balance are key indicators.
Most cases appear after the age of 60, though some patients may develop symptoms earlier, the press release said.
Regarding treatment, Dr Kamlesh Singh Bhaisora, director of neurosurgery at Medanta, said that Parkinson's is primarily managed with medications that help control symptoms....
