VARANASI, Sept. 17 -- Uttar Pradesh finance minister and minister-in-charge of Varanasi district Suresh Khanna on Wednesday said regular health check-ups are essential for people involved in weaving work. Khanna said this after inaugurating a free health check-up camp for weavers in Lohta. The minister said the camp was organised with the support of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He described the initiative, organised specifically for the weaving community on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, as praiseworthy. Khanna said there are more than one lakh weavers in Varanasi. He said weavers often face various physical ailments associated with their work and therefore need regular health check-ups. He said the government has taken steps to improve healthcare services, with 83 medical colleges now established. Khanna urged weavers not to hesitate and said the health camp had been organised for their benefit. He also wished for the good health of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the weavers present at the event. Organisations including the Gates Foundation, Medanta, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), RJ Sankara Eye Hospital and Tata 1mg participated in the event. District Panchayat president Poonam Maurya, district magistrate Satyendra Kumar, CMO Dr NP Singh, former AIIMS Delhi director Randeep Guleria and others were present on the occasion.
