Dehradun, May 25 -- The Dehradun district administration has cancelled the registrations of 103 homestays operating in violation of prescribed norms as part of an intensive crackdown aimed at maintaining law and order and curbing illegal commercial activities being run under the guise of homestays, officials said on Sunday. The administration has also initiated the process of delisting the affected establishments from tourism department website. According to officials, the action has been carried out under the district administration's "Operation Clean-up" campaign. In the first phase, registrations of 17 illegal homestays were cancelled, followed by 79 in the second phase and seven in the third phase. Authorities said the drive is still underway and further action may follow. The inspections revealed several serious violations, including operation of unauthorised bars, loud DJ music throughout the night, absence of kitchen facilities, expired or missing fire safety equipment, and operation without mandatory food licences. Authorities also found that some homestays were being used as wedding venues and for other commercial purposes. The officials further said that several establishments were operating on lease or rental agreements, despite the owner not residing on the premises, which violates homestay norms. In many cases, rooms were being operated beyond permitted capacity....
