Rape accused arrested after police encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, June 23 -- Police arrested a man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl from the Puramufti police station area following an encounter late Sunday night.
Police stated that a complaint was filed by the victim's father alleging that the accused, identified as Musharraf, along with three unidentified associates, abducted the girl from her home on the night of June 14.
The complaint further stated that she was sexually assaulted before being found unconscious outside her residence the following morning. After registering an FIR, police launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend those involved in the incident.
Deputy commissioner of police (City) Manish Shandilya said that acting on a tip-off late Sunday night, police received information that Musharraf was hiding near a brick kiln on the Fatehpur Ghat-Tikri road.
When officers moved in to arrest him, he allegedly opened fire on the police team and attempted to flee.
Police said Musharraf sustained gunshot injuries to both legs during the exchange of fire. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment and remains in police custody. Officials recovered a country-made pistol and two cartridges from his possession.
Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the three unidentified co-accused, police added.
Meanwhile, former minister and Allahabad West MLA Sidharth Nath Singh met the victim's family and assured them that strict action would be taken against all those responsible....
