Ram temple a reality due to Ashok Singhal's resolve: Champat Rai
KANPUR, Oct. 1 -- The Ram temple in Ayodhya became a reality because of the unwavering resolve of former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Ashok Singhal, said VHP central vice-president Champat Rai in Kanpur on Wednesday. He also credited the sacrifices of lakhs of Ram devotees and seers associated with the movement.
Rai was speaking at the inauguration of Singhal's birth centenary year at BNSD Shiksha Niketan, Benajhabar. Recalling the years of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, he said Singhal took up the task of awakening Hindu society at a time when speaking openly about one's faith, identity and cultural self-respect was considered highly challenging.
He said Singhal brought seers from different sects, traditions and schools of Hinduism onto one platform and helped give momentum to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
According to Rai, Singhal's efforts helped turn the Ram Janmabhoomi movement into one of the largest mass movements in the country. The temple that now stands in Ayodhya, he said, was the result of Singhal's long struggle as well as the sacrifices of Ram devotees and seers....
