LUCKNOW, Sept. 2 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs.24.82 crore for the purchase and installation of advanced security equipment at the under-construction Ram Janmabhoomi pilgrimage area in Ayodhya, according to a government order issued on August 27. A senior home department official informed that the administrative and financial sanction for Rs.24,82,47,000 has been accorded with the Governor's approval. The amount will be used for procuring and installing modern security machines and equipment at the temple complex. He said the sanction follows proposals from the Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters, the security headquarters and the additional superintendent of police (Security), Ayodhya. The equipment will be procured according to prescribed government procurement rules, including provisions applicable to micro, small and medium enterprises, he added. The order specifies that the UP Police headquarters/security headquarters will obtain approval from the competent authority for the proposed equipment's make, model, specifications and quantity based on departmental requirements. The procurement must also comply with the e-procurement manual and other applicable financial rules and government orders. The authorities have been directed to ensure that no equipment is procured against an amount already sanctioned for the same purpose. Funds will be drawn only after completing the prescribed procurement process. The government has also stipulated that the equipment must be procured within the sanctioned amount, with no deviation permitted. Any unspent amount will not be diverted for purchasing other equipment or services. The order further assigns responsibility for the execution of the works to the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Nirman Nigam Ltd.
