LUCKNOW, Sept. 29 -- With Rajya Sabha and MLC elections round the corner, BJP's core committee on Monday held a crucial meeting at the chief minister's residence to discuss prospective candidates. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, BJP state chief Pankaj Chaudhary and general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh attended meeting. The main agenda was Rajya Sabha nominees for 10 seats going to polls on October 16. BJP and its allies are in a position to win 8 of them, said BJP leaders. As no final decision could be taken, the core committee will meet again on either Tuesday or Wednesday to finalise candidates. Sources said the party is preparing a panel of three names per RS seat to be sent to the central leadership for the final call. Along with that, 11 MLC seats were also discussed. BJP has already announced five names for MLC polls. BJP's exercise is not limited to filling Rajya Sabha vacancies. Party wants to use Rajya Sabha to balance caste and regional equations-OBC, Dalit, upper caste, Jat and minority-ahead of the 2027 UP assembly polls. Each region's political structure is being factored in before finalising candidates. Final picture will be clear only after the central leadership clears the names....
