GORAKHPUR, Sept. 21 -- As political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Cabinet minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Sunday renewed his demand for a separate Purvanchal state. He said UP could eventually be divided into four states and that a member of the Rajbhar community could then become chief minister of Purvanchal. While addressing a Samajik Samrasta rally at Janta Inter College in Sonu Ghat, Deoria, he said UP should be divided into Purvanchal, Paschimanchal, Bundelkhand and Madhyanchal to facilitate development and improve administration. "If Purvanchal is formed as a separate state, a son of the Rajbhar community will become its chief minister," Rajbhar said. He also reiterated his demand for sub-categorisation of the 27% OBC quota, arguing that reservation benefits should be distributed more equitably among different backward communities. Rajbhar has continued to press for greater political and administrative representation for backward and extremely backward communities.
