Rains trigger house collapses; four injured
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 23 -- Incessant rainfall over the past several days has triggered the collapse of several kutcha and dilapidated houses in Prayagraj and neighbouring Pratapgarh districts, leaving at least four people injured, including a woman who was referred to a district hospital in critical condition.
In several other incidents, families escaped unhurt but lost household belongings after their houses collapsed.
In Prayagraj's Koraon area, two residential kutcha houses in Bhaluha village belonging to Vidya Shankar Tripathi and Nagendra Bahadur Singh collapsed on Friday night, trapping three people under the debris. The injured were identified as Urmila Singh, wife of Nagendra Bahadur Singh, Mamta Singh, wife of Jai Bahadur Singh, and Virat, son of Vinay Kumar Singh.
In another incident in the Maniyara hamlet of Belwania village in Koraon, a kutcha house belonging to Vinod Kumar Mishra alias Vinodacharya suddenly collapsed on Friday night. No one was inside the house at the time, averting a major tragedy.
In the neighbouring Karachhana area, a dilapidated brick house collapsed in Sulmai village on Friday afternoon amid the rain.
In Pratapgarh district, a rain-weakened kutcha house collapsed in Gangaram Ka Purwa of Mubarak village under Kunda block. The house belonged to Nirmala Devi, wife of Prem Kumar....
