LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- A brief, partial increase in rainfall activity over the state in the next 48 hours has been forecast even as conditions appear favourable for the withdrawal of the monsoon around September 19 from Western Rajasthan.
"While the rain deficit in UP stands at 4%, overall the state recorded 667.5 mm rainfall against an average of 692 mm. East UP recorded 668.4 mm rainfall against average of 734.3 mm, deficit of 9% while West UP received 666.3 mm against long period average of 632.9 mm, excess by 5% in this monsoon so far," said Mohd Danish, a senior scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow on Tuesday.
There are 27 districts which are deficient or largely deficient, 33 which witnessed normal rainfall, and another 15 districts, which recorded excess rainfall this season.
East UP's Deoria witnessed 74% rain deficit, Kushinagar 68%, Kanpur Dehat 62%. West UP's Shamli and Ghaziabad witnessed a rain deficit of 67% and 65%, respectively. Districts that recorded large excess rainfall are Sambhal (81%), Mahoba (71%) and Chitrakoot (67%).
