Mussoorie, Aug. 21 -- Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning was reported from isolated places across Uttarakhand during the past 24 hours, triggering landslides, uprooting trees and disrupting traffic on several roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for parts of the state from August 21 to 24, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated places along with thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rain. In Tehri district, a stretch of National Highway 707A between Dimta Bend and Jeevan Ashram on the Kempty-Yamunapul road was blocked overnight following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. "The road was blocked overnight due to heavy rain and was opened by 2 pm on Thursday for light vehicles," said Yogendra Gusain, Kempty police station in-charge. Uttarakhand received 12.4mm of rain against a normal of 12.1 mm during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, recording an excess of 3%.
