Rai extends support to new UP Cong chief
LUCKNOW, Oct. 4 -- Extending all support to newly appointed Uttar Pradesh Congress president Aradhana Mishra 'Mona', her predecessor Ajay Rai said he would keep working for the party and was now focusing on the 2027 assembly elections which he planned to contest from Pindra in Varanasi.
He also said he was thankful to the party for giving him the opportunity to serve as the state president for a period of three-years (from August 2023).
Asked about the new state president, he said, "She is responsible and sensible and will do well for the party. We will all support her."
"I am a worker of the party and have abided by what party leaders told me and will keep working for the Congress," said Rai who was in Varanasi's Pindra.
"We have begun working for the election and will contest from Pindra for the party. Pindra is my home and has given me my political career. Hence, my relations with Pindra and its people will remain till death. Any responsibility given will be fulfilled and right now the target is to oust the BJP," Rai said.
Rai had contested the Lok Sabha polls against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi in 2014, 2019 and 2024-where he secured over 4.60 lakh votes in the last election....
