PVVNL officers transferred over power outages in Meerut
Meerut, July 15 -- In a major administrative shake-up triggered by persistent power outages and mounting public outrage, the Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) on Tuesday transferred a superintending engineer, an executive engineer and five sub-divisional officers (SDOs) posted in Meerut.
The action was ordered by PVVNL managing director Ravish Gupta following a review that reportedly found serious lapses in handling electricity supply and consumer grievances.
Urban superintending engineer Mohammad Arshad has been removed from his post and attached to the office of the MD. Executive engineer Ankit Vashishtha has been transferred to Deoband in Saharanpur district.
According to officials, the department had been receiving complaints from residents about prolonged and frequent power cuts across Meerut. During an internal review, officials allegedly found negligence in maintaining power supply and addressing public complaints, prompting the transfers.
The MD also ordered the transfer of five SDOs Mohammad Jaseem Akhtar, Amit Kumar Mishra, Santosh Kumar, Satish Chandra and Rupesh Kumar. Departmental sources said all five officers were found responsible for significant lapses in their duties.
The transfers come against the backdrop of growing public resentment over frequent electricity disruptions in the city. The issue had sparked repeated protests, with elected representatives also raising concerns over the deteriorating power supply. The situation escalated two days back when residents, angered by prolonged outages, attempted to gherao the residence of PVVNL MD before moving towards the official residence of Meerut DM V.K.
