Pvt ambulance collides with Army truck, 3 killed, 2 injured
Bikaner, July 6 -- A 56-year-old cancer patient and her two children were killed after the private ambulance carrying them collided head-on with an Army medical support vehicle on National Highway-62 in Sri Ganganagar district's Suratgarh early Sunday, officials said, adding that another son of the deceased woman and the ambulance driver sustained injuries.
According to Lt Col Nikhil Dhawan, PRO Defence Rajasthan, the accident occurred at around 5.30 am when the private ambulance, returning after the women's treatment in Jaipur, attempted to overtake a civilian truck and entered the wrong side of the highway. "The Army Advanced Life Support (ALS) vehicle was travelling in the correct lane as part of an operational convoy when the collision took place, leaving little time or space to avoid the impact," the spokesperson said.
The ambulance was carrying Mahendra Kaur (56), who was undergoing treatment for cancer, along with her sons Satnam Singh (26) and Ram Prakash (32), her daughter Laxmi Devi (26) and ambulance driver Rajveer, police said. Mahendra Kaur, Satnam Singh and Laxmi Devi died on the spot, while Ram Prakash and Rajveer sustained injuries, officials said. On receiving information about the accident, a police team led by sub-inspector Sampat Dhayal reached the spot and, with assistance from Army personnel, launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to the Suratgarh Government Hospital for treatment. Police have initiated an investigation and legal proceedings are underway. The Army said it is extending full cooperation and expressed condolences to the bereaved family....
