Protest outside Ajmer jail over prisoner's murder ends after delegation meets police
Ajmer, July 1 -- The protest staged by the Sarv Samaj over the murder of convicted dacoit Jagan Gurjar inside Ajmer High-Security Jail on Monday ended on Tuesday evening after the police administration gave written assurance on four key demands, officers said.
A five-member delegation held talks with Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Himanshu Jangid at around 5.30 pm.
The meeting lasted nearly an hour, following which a written agreement was reached between the administration, Gurjar's family, and representatives of the Sarv Samaj.
As per the agreement, Gurjar's son, Asaram Gurjar, will be provided immediate police security.
The administration further agreed to provide security to Gurjar's entire family.
Another major demand accepted by the administration was the transfer of Gurjar's brother, Pappu Gurjar, who is currently lodged in Ajmer High-Security Jail, to another prison. Dholpur and Bharatpur have been identified as the two possible locations, with a final decision to be taken shortly, said officials.
The administration also granted permission for Gurjar's two other brothers, Pan Singh and Man Singh, who are lodged in Dholpur Jail, to attend his last rites.
Additionally, the authorities agreed to conduct a high-level judicial inquiry into allegations of negligence by the Ajmer High-Security Jail administration in connection with the murder. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty after the investigation.
According to investigators, the murder took place between 11 pm and 3 pm when the inmates were locked inside their cells.
They added that when Gurjar failed to come out of his cell even after cell doors were opened, inmates from neighbouring cells asked the accused Vishnu, who allegedly replied, "I have killed him."
Jail superintendent Paras Jangid said that Vishnu had never shown any indication that he was planning to kill Jagan Gurjar and that both inmates appeared to share a normal relationship. Following the murder, Vishnu admitted during questioning that he had been planning the killing for a long time. to jail officials, Jagan Gurjar frequently mocked him by saying that he was a real dacoit while Vishnu was merely an ordinary thief. Vishnu also alleged that Gurjar repeatedly insulted both him and his family.
Investigators believe that years of humiliation and verbal abuse eventually drove Vishnu to carry out the murder inside one of Rajasthan's most secure prisons....
