Lucknow, April 24 -- A proposed cultural item featuring the attire, food and songs of Pakistan along with India's other neighbouring countries, for an upcoming event at Lucknow's La Martiniere College (boys) triggered a controversy that led to the programme being altered and the "Pakistan part" was done away with. The controversy came to the fore as a few parents widely circulated a message through various WhatsApp groups: "A reputed school of Lucknow by the name of La Martiniere College is pressuring the young students of Class 5 to wear the clothes, food & sing songs of Pakistan. The students have also to wear the cap and flag of Pakistan. A humble request to first check and stop this harassment which is going to be held on April 25." When contacted, Adrian Michael, the bursar of La Martiniere College, said, "There was a school event lined up called, 'Beyond Frontiers: Neighbours of India'. Children were to enact our neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka. In that sequence, Class 5 students were to enact Pakistan in that event." "Unfortunately the concerned teacher did not anticipate its fallout. As of now, the Pakistan part from the event has been removed. The Class 5 students who were to represent Pakistan were told not to be a part of the event to avoid controversy," he said. A WhatsApp message by C Everett, head, junior school, to the parents said: "The event 'Beyond Frontiers' for Class 5 only, stands cancelled."...
