Probe panel formed after builder dies in lift shaft mishap
Agra, June 1 -- The district administration has constituted a committee to investigate the death of a 58-year-old builder who fell into a lift shaft and was crushed by the descending lift in a residential apartment building in Aligarh. The incident occurred on Saturday at Rasik Apartment in Ganga Jawahar Colony on Ramghat Road. The deceased, Hari Om Verma, a property dealer and builder, had reportedly visited the apartment for a business meeting.
According to officials, Verma pressed the lift button and the safety channel opened. However, the lift car was not at the floor. Owing to poor lighting, he apparently assumed the lift had arrived and stepped forward, falling into the shaft.
Verma reportedly shouted for help, but before assistance could reach him, the lift descended and fell on him, causing his death on the spot.
On Sunday, the district administration formed a probe committee to examine the circumstances leading to the accident. The committee comprises the Secretary of the Aligarh Development Authority and the Assistant Director, Power Safety....
