PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 10 -- Police are yet to ascertain the circumstances that led to the alleged suicide of a woman recruit constable posted at the Mahila Thana in Manjhanpur, Kaushambi as no conclusive evidence has emerged so far. The deceased, a resident of Sikhari village under Dulahpur police station in Ghazipur district, was serving as a recruit constable at the women's police station in Kaushambi. A member of the 2025 batch, it was her first posting. According to police, she was on guard duty with an INSAS rifle on Tuesday. At around 10 pm, she allegedly shot herself inside the police station premises. The bullet struck her near the neck and exited through the side of her head, resulting in her death. Superintendent of police (SP) Satyanarayan Prajapat assigned the investigation into the incident to additional superintendent of police (ASP) Amita Singh. ASP Singh said that around 15 women constables residing in the barracks with the deceased have been questioned so far. However, none of them could provide any information indicating why she may have taken the extreme step. Statements of other personnel posted at the police station are also being recorded as part of the investigation. Following the post-mortem examination, police also interacted with the deceased's family members. Police said the family did not provide any specific information. Police seized her mobile phone immediately after the incident and examined her call records. Officials said no suspicious communication or unusual activity has been detected so far. According to police, most of the calls on the device were to family members and friends. ASP Amita Singh said medicines were recovered from the room of the deceased, indicating that she had been suffering from headaches and stomach-related ailments. A thorough search of her accommodation was conducted, but no suicide note was found. The INSAS rifle used in the incident has been seized and will be sent for forensic examination....
