Prime accused among six held in Azamgarh wedding murder
VARANASI, July 10 -- Six people, including the prime accused, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a youth following a dispute over food at a wedding in Azamgarh district, police said.
The victim, Pritosh Rajbhar, aged in his late twenties, had attended a wedding at Dandwal village under Mehnazpur police station on the night of July 7-8. According to the complaint lodged by Chandrakala, a resident of Sarai Khursu village, he was allegedly assaulted with wooden sticks and an iron rod after an argument over food and later died of his injuries.
A case was registered under Sections 105 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with Section 3(5) added during the investigation.
Police said five accused were arrested from Barwan Mod on July 9 after receiving a tip-off that they were attempting to flee. The prime accused, Ajit Yadav alias Bhanta, had been arrested earlier following a police encounter.
The arrested accused were identified as Ashish Yadav, Raja Chauhan, Abhishek Kharwar, Shani Chauhan and Anand Rajbhar, all residents of different parts of Azamgarh. Police said a wooden stick and an iron rod, allegedly used in the assault, were recovered at their instance.
During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that the attack followed a dispute over food at the wedding, police claimed....
