Prepaid power meters haveadded to people's woes: Akhilesh
LUCKNOW, April 6 -- Attack the UP government, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday alleged that the installation of prepaid and smart meters in the state has turned users into what he termed 'prepaid victims'.
"Those who have got prepaid meters installed are being forced to endure darkness amid heat because of flaws in smart meters," he claimed in a statement. Yadav questioned why power utilities continue to 'harass' consumers when payments are received upfront.
"Since the electricity companies receive their payments in advance, why should they bother concerning themselves with the welfare of the common people?" he asked.
The SP chief alleged that there was a collusion between the government and power companies to amass wealth, leaving consumers with no effective redressal. He further alleged that under BJP rule, people are no longer mere consumers but have become sufferers. "A government that stands with the victims will come to power and it will ensure that every citizen receives their rightful access to electricity," Yadav said....
