PRAYAGRAJ, June 20 -- Residents of Prayagraj will soon have a new recreational destination as the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to develop a unique maze park in the Kalindipuram area, combining a maze garden with dense Miyawaki-style afforestation. The project will be developed over nearly 22 bighas at an estimated cost of Rs.3.31 crore, officials said. The civic body has already floated a tender for the park, which is designed as a family-friendly destination where visitors can spend an entire day amid greenery and recreational facilities. The proposed park will feature a maze-style layout created using native plant species under the Miyawaki afforestation technique, known for producing dense forests through high-density plantation. The project aims to improve biodiversity, enhance environmental quality and increase green cover within the city. Apart from the maze attraction, the park will include a yoga zone, an open gym, a children's play area with play equipment and sand pits, landscaped lawns, walking pathways, seating areas, rockery features and mounds. Basic sanitation facilities, including toilets and urinals, will also be provided. Environment-friendly dustbins and solar-powered lighting infrastructure, such as streetlights, bollard lights and high masts, will be installed across the park. According to the project plan, the main entrance will provide easy access for visitors, while the overall layout has been designed to serve as a community space for daily recreational activities. Native trees will be planted in four layers shrub, sub-tree, tree and canopy to create a self-sustaining green ecosystem. Saplings will be selected according to local climatic conditions, including temperature, humidity and sunlight exposure. PMC executive engineer Anil Kumar Maurya, who conceptualised the project, said the proposed facility would combine the features of a Miyawaki forest and a maze park. He said a Miyawaki park has already been developed in Naini's industrial area, while another is currently under development there. "After the maze park developed at Rura in Kanpur, this will be the second such park in Uttar Pradesh. However, unlike a conventional maze garden, the greenery here will resemble a dense forest, giving visitors the feeling of moving through a jungle while walking inside the park," Maurya said....
