PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 27 -- Family members of a 30-year-old jeweller Bhupendra Soni, who died after falling from an apartment building in Naini under suspicious circumstances on Friday, blocked the Prayagraj-Rewa highway with his body on Saturday evening, alleging murder. Soni's family demanded registration of a murder case and the arrest of those responsible. ACP (Kaundhiyara) Abdus Salam Khan and ACP (Karchhana) Kunjlata reached the spot and attempted to pacify the protesters. After some time, the blockade was cleared and the body was taken for cremation. Police are yet to establish whether Soni, who hailed from Champatpur village under Ghoorpur police station in Prayagraj, accidentally fell or was pushed. Soni, who ran a jewellery shop in Sarangapur, reached the apartment in his car at around 2 pm on Friday. Soon afterwards, residents reportedly heard a loud noise and, upon coming out of their flats, found him lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Two sub-inspectors, who were reportedly present at the apartment complex at the time of the incident, rushed the jeweller to the Chaka community health centre. Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital where he was declared dead. However, the family told police that Soni was not known to frequent the apartment and they did not know why he had gone there. According to SHO Avinash Kumar Singh, ADA police outpost in-charge Lekhpal Singh had gone to the apartment for official work when the incident occurred. However, the exact nature of the work was not immediately clear. Residents reportedly told police that another sub-inspector was accompanying him. Yamunanagar DCP Vivek Chandra Yadav said the circumstances surrounding the jeweller's death were being investigated from all angles.
