Prayagraj airport runway to be extended by 600 metres
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 12 -- The Indian Air Force (IAF) is carrying out work to extend the runway at Prayagraj airport by 600 metres. The move is expected to improve the airport's capacity to handle larger aircraft and make flight operations smoother.
The airport's existing runway is around 2,700 metres long. The extension will improve operational flexibility, including aircraft landings, take-offs, turning and taxiing. It will also help the airport handle an increase in air traffic, airport officials said.

Air traffic at the airport increased considerably during Maha Kumbh 2025, when more than 100 flights a day were operating at times. The rise in traffic also led to some aircraft having to circle in the air before landing because of space constraints. With another major religious congregation expected in 2031, the runway extension is expected to help the airport manage the anticipated rise in passenger numbers and flight traffic more efficiently....
