Lucknow, June 11 -- Widespread power cuts, transformer failures, cable fires and snapped high-tension lines disrupted electricity supply across Lucknow on Wednesday, exposing growing stress on the city's power infrastructure during peak summer demand. The most severe disruption was reported in Dubagga, where around 4,000 consumers connected to the Adarsh Vihar feeder remained without electricity for nearly five hours overnight. Angry residents gathered at the FCI substation after midnight, demanding immediate restoration of supply. Police intervened and dispersed the crowd after assurances from officials. Electricity department employees cited severe staff shortages, claiming the FCI substation serves over 26,000 consumers with only 15 personnel. In Jankipuram, a snapped 11,000-volt line electrocuted four animals, triggering panic among residents. Several localities, including Raja Bazar, Para, and BKT, also reported prolonged outages ranging from three to 11 hours. Residents staged protests at Shivpuri power house in Chinhat over recurring faults and delayed responses to complaints.
